社交媒體必然會引致社會撕裂？

傳統智慧是，在社交場合，不談政治(亦不談宗教)。社交場合，風花雪月。傳統報章，只能閱讀，回饋有限。一般市民大眾，只能每隔一段時間才能投票。投票保密，互相尊重，即使家人亦從不過問。傳統的代議政制，以精英出任尊貴議員，其在國會發言，為後世傳頌。這是傳統。

現今社交媒體大談政治，政團推波助瀾。各人政治取向昭告天下，物以類聚，連群結黨。網絡平台取代了國會。群眾猶如洪水猛獸，以粗言穢語互相撕殺，只問立場，不講理由。家庭/社會撕裂，由社交媒體開始。

Will social media inevitably lead to a split society?

Traditional wisdom has it that in social gatherings, no-one should talk about politics (nor religion). In social gatherings, one should only talk about trivial matters. Traditionally, for newspaper, one can only read it, but there are limited channels for feedback. The general public can only vote from time to time. Votes are cast in confidence, everyone respects each other, even family members never ask. Traditionally, where we have representative democracy, the elite are returned as honourable members of parliament, making fine speeches for posterity. This is the tradition as we knew it.

Today's social media talks much about politics. Political organisations keep pushing. Everyone's political inclination is made public, while all birds of the same feather flock together, forming groups and alliances. The social media platform has thus replaced parliament. People act like wild animals, shouting profanity at one another, identifying themselves with political stance, instead of reasons. Family / social split thus starts from social media.
